Trapezoidal Coils

Trapezoidal coils use the principles of the Helmholtz coil, which consists of identical circular magnets spaced at a distance equal to the radius of the magnets. Electricity flows through both in the same direction, producing a magnetic field that is nearly uniform. One recent medical application of this magnetic field is to heat magnetic nanoparticles that have been delivered to cancerous cells. The heated nanoparticles destroy the targeted cells without harming nearby non-cancerous tissue.
